The Duluth Children's Museum is designed as a special place where children enrich their lifelong exploration of their ever-expanding world through play-filled activities.  In creating exhibits and programs, the Duluth Children's Museum respects the sense of play in both children and adults, and encourages cooperative and intergenerational play.  The Museum provides and open environment for the affirmation of diversity and appreciation of differences.

Attention

The 1st floor of our exhibit space will be closed beginning May 5th, and it will be open again by May 18th in order for us to change exhibits.

Coming Soon...The Children's Castle

Coming back to the Duluth Children's Museum by popular demand is our beloved Children’s Castle.   Children will enter a medieval castle setting in which they can explore the castle grounds and discover exciting surprises!  There is ample opportunity for role-playing and interaction.  They will visit a Blacksmith Shop to shoe their horses, lending the squire a hand in the Stable.  The children will plant and pick vegetables in the Garden to prepare their royal feast, using a trestle table, cauldron and food props in the Great Hall.   There are costumes for the children to dress up in as the Lords, Ladies, Knights, Jesters and “commoners.”  The youngest visitors to the Children’s Castle will discover the Keep, a miniature castle within the exhibit.

The Children’s Castle exhibit opens Sunday, May 18.

The Duluth Children's Museum has been getting some recognition in the local media!

Many of you have asked the question. With all the recent publicity about a new children’s museum in the future for Duluth it is natural to want to know: When will it open?

The answer to that question is not an easy one.  We have set our sights on Clyde Park. We believe being in Lincoln Park is ideally suited to our ability to serve the needs of the community.

So what is next? The board of trustees has retained the services of a professional fund development, the Steier Group, to conduct a community readiness study for us. This study will be complete in late March and it will inform the board of the financial capacity of the community to support a new museum. While we feel that to invest in the children of our community is a solid investment in our future we do have to be assured the funding to support, a new museum is going to be forthcoming in order to take this bold leap.

What can you do? When contacted for input about the need for a new museum please respond with your honest and candid opinions. Talk about the Duluth Children's Museum in your community and make sure people know Duluth is home to the fifth oldest children’s museum in the nation. Most of all, make visiting the Museum in our current home a priority for you and your family.
